The number 7 is a foundational number to the Biblical text used consistently in the context of divine & spiritual completion. The number 77 is 7 * 11 and using a numerology approach (numbers represent concepts derived from how they're used in the Bible) we need to also consider the meaning associated with 11. therefore represents divine completeness and judgement. The number 77 itself is not very common throughout the Bible, showing up only twice, but seemingly significant to the tribulation period and the rapture.
The first time 77 is mentioned in the Bible is in the account of Lamech in which he boasts that he killed a man who injured him and declared boastfully that if God declared vengance would be seven times as much on the person who might murder Cain, then the vengeance associated with him would be seventy seven times. Lamech is the seventh born from Adam (through Cain) whereas the seventh born from Adam through Seth was Enoch. So, in this we see two sevens one that results in a murderous line resulting in vengeance and judgement and the other seven resulting in Enoch who lived a good life and was raptured rather than experiencing death.
The second time 77 appears in the scripture is in the events of Isaac's blessing. Isaac was the son of Abraham and therefore the direct recipient to the inherited promises God made to Abraham. When Isaac's twin sons Esau and Jacob were born, God declared that despite Jacob being the second-born he would become greater than his brother. Later in their lives Jacob convinced Esau to sell him his birthright. Then, when they turned 77 Jacob was urged by his mother Rebekah to pretend to be his brother to receive the blessing of the inheritance from his aged father Isaac. The blessing is therefore passed to Issac the second born. So, at 77 we see blessing by birthright passed to another. Likewise, the tribulation period comes upon the second iteration of Israel, but so too does the millennial kingdom and the fulfillment of the inherited promises. Because it's convenient, I'll also mention that this same Jacob goes on to work for seven years for a bride he did not desire and then anoher seven years for the bride he did desire. This too is both a double seven and a foreshadow of the tribulation period in which the bride that wasn't desired represents the church and the bride that was first desired represents Israel seven years later. These two brides become the mothers of Israel. Likewise, the church and the remnant of the Jewish people at the end of the tribulation will become the mothers of the Millennial Kingdom living in unity.
There are many other types and foreshadows related to sevens and double sevens throughout scripture that I cover in greater detail on the 7 year typology page.
