Please note that because of the speculative and intepretive nature of the content of this page, it is my intention to update it as my understanding develops.

In the prophetic scriptures of the Bible are symbolic language is used for "beasts" that symbolize kingdoms, empires, or systems of power that rise and fall throughout history β€” (see Daniel 7:23-24). We learn in Revelation 17:11 that there are 8 beasts total. The Bible provides explicit interpretation of some of the beasts, which provides the framework for the reader to develop interpretation of the remaining beasts. Through these symbols, God demonstrates His timeless omniscience and divine sovereignty over all existence. These eight kingdom-beasts play a significant role in the development of the history of mankind leading up to and including the end times. Below, I walk through the eight beasts of the Bible and some of the implications I believe these portions of the Bible have on the current age.

Presented in my believed chronological order, the eight beasts of the Bible and where in scripture they are found are:

  • Two-Horned Ram β€” Daniel 8
  • Great-Horned Goat β€” Daniel 8
  • Lion With Eagles Wings of the Sea β€” Daniel 7
  • Bear β€” Daniel 7
  • Four-Headed, Winged Leopard β€” Daniel 7
  • Terrifying & Dreadful Seven-Headed Beast β€” Daniel 7, Revelation 13 & 17
  • Two-Horned Lamb of the Earth β€” Revelation 13
  • Seven-headed Red Dragon - Revelation 12, 13, 17, 19

Daniel 8 Biblical Beasts
The Ram & The Goat

The Ram and the Goat of Daniel 8's Prophetic Beasts

In Daniel 8, Daniel describes a vision of two beasts while he was near the Ulai Canal in the city of Susa was located in modern day Shush, Iran just north of the Persian Gulf. The two beasts are a Ram with two horns that is conquesting west, and a Goat with a great horn that ultimately breaks off and in its place 4 separate horns grow. I begin with this chapter because we are given the interpretation of the vision in Daniel 8:20-26. The details of this interpretation sets some of the ground work for how to approach the other prophetic beasts. In the interpretation we learn that the beasts represent kingdoms and that the two-horned ram represents the kingdom of Media and Persia and that the Goat represents Greece. With the advantage of historical hindsight, we now know that Medo-Persia with its strength around the Persian Gulf conquested westward just as described and was ultimately conquered by Greece. With some historic context, the great horn is clearly symbolic of Alexander the Great who led the successful conquesting campaign for Greece and died shortly afterward. Upon his death, his four generals divided up the empire just as the prophecy indicates the great horn divided into four horns. So, we understand that this prophetic vision provided to Daniel has already come to fulfillment in the past.

Daniel 7 Biblical Beasts

The Beastsof Daniel 7

It's in Daniel 7 that we are first introduced to the prophetic beasts of the Bible. In this chapter, four beasts are seen in a vision given to Daniel during the reign of Belshazzar who was the eldest grandson of Nebuchadnezzar and son of Nabunidus. We know from history that Nabunidus went into exile around 550 BC and the throne was given to Belshazzar. That places this vision around 60 years (give or take) into the 70 year Babylonian captivity of the Jewish people by the Babylonians. In the vision, Daniel sees four beasts β€” three that resemble animals he recognizes and a fourth that is an amalgamation of the previous three beasts. We see in Daniel 7:17-24 that the beasts are four kingdoms who will arise from the earth. You will find many interpretations of these beasts online claiming they represent kingdoms past. However, Gabriel clearly states to Daniel in Daniel 7:23-27 that the fourth beast will rise and fight against God in the Battle of Armageddon prior to the Millennial reign of Jesus. Because we've placed the fourth beast, we get some implication that the other three beasts occur before the tribulation period so that the fourth beast can be formed from them. It appears to me that these first three beasts describe modern-day kingdoms β€” as I believe that the Tribulation period is upon us in a short time-frame.

Daniel 7 Biblical Beasts
The Lion

The Bear of Daniel 7's Prophetic Beasts

The lion beast with eagles wings found in Daniel 7 seems to best correlate to modern-day Israel with air support from the United States (the eagle wings). Israel self-identifies as the Lion, which originates from Genesis 49:9 where Jacob blesses his son saying "Judah is a lion's cub... he crouched like a lion." From this, the lion became the national and cultural symbol of the tribe of Judah, one of the twelved tribes of Israel. From there, the lion has many other connections in Israel's history and has been established as a national emblem and is featured on the Jerusalem coat of arms. More recently, the lion has been adopted as the symbol of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and is featured on the IDF's flag. Today, it's common to hear politicians refer to Israel or its people in lion terms. For example, in 2024, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu referred to Israel as a "Lion Nation" in a speech to the United Nations General Assembly. Likewise, the recent military operation against Iranian nuclear and ballistic missile facilities was named "Operation Rising Lion". This sname in particular looks to harken back to Daniel 7:3 states that the lion is lifted up from the ground (or risen) to stand on two feed like a man.

Further using modern politics & current events as well as widely known cultural symbolism as I did in the paragraph above, it seems that the eagle wings might correlate to the United States providing military air support to Israel in recent events. The implication of this interpretation would be that the American support of Israel is eventually forcefully removed at some point and Israel because the wings are said to be "plucked". For the moment, I'll leave it at that, and move to the next beast that I think might give insight into how/why the wings are plucked.

Daniel 7 Biblical Beasts
The Bear

The Bear of Daniel 7's Prophetic Beasts

In Daniel 7:5 we get a very brief description of one of the prophetic beasts - a bear. This bear is described as a bear raised up on one side with three ribs in its mouth between its teeth. The bear is told to arise and devour much flesh. From this description we get the image of a kingdom that is violent, associated with conquest, particularly defensive or offensive on one side, and will at some point arise to violent conquest. I think there's also one hidden characteristic of the bear that we find in Daniel 7:19. We're told in Revelation 13:2 that the feet of the fourth beast are the feet like a bear's. Then, In Daniel 7:19 we're told that the claws of the fourth beast are bronze β€” not iron like it's teeth. Could be that it's just something being communicated about the 4th beast. But, I think this is a hidden hint that the bear has military association with bronze.

Fulfillment Speculation

Being their official national animal, the bear naturally aligns to Russia through self-identified cultural trends and patterns harkening back to ancient Slavic traditions. The Russian word for bear "Medved" is a Russian euphemism for "the one who eats honey", which along with the strong & ferocious nature of the bear serve as intentional projected cultural identity characteristics of the nation. In Daniel 7:5 the bear is described as being raised up on one side, which I think is symbolic of Russia's recent military actions in Ukraine on it's western flank as well as the general disposition of Russia toward the west for decades β€” a raised, aggressive posture.

While it's completely speculative, informed from the revisionist historical account Putin delivered in 2024 with Tucker Carlson, we come to understand that current Russian leadership views the territories of Ukraine, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and others as territory that Russia has historic claim to. From this we establish that the bear has an appetite for other countries around it. And, we see in recent history that Russia has sought to impose its influence over these territories politically and militarily. So, it's reasonable to connect the bear to a speculative future state of Russia. Note that I also include Belarus which is commonly viewed as a Russian puppet state. Notice how the combination of these territories even take on the form of a bear in this speculative approach:

And, what about the bronze claws? Well, ancient Russia had advanced cultures in the Bronze Age including sophisticated metalworking including mastery of bronze metalworking in particular. On the other end, Russia's most powerful national symbols are probably Peter the Great whose likeness is portrayed in a bronze statue commissioned by Catherine the Great. The story of this statue is captured in Pushkin's Poem "The Bronze Horseman: A Petersburg Tale". So, we see some linkage to bronze specifically with both ancient and modern Russia.

Daniel 7 tells us that during or directly after the wings are plucked from the lion, the bear is told to rise and eat its fill of flesh. It's possible that the bear being allowed to rise and attack is the very same incident that results in the wings being plucked from the lion. Put in terms of our current geo-political circumstances where the US and Russia seem to be in a proxy war and escalating tensions progressively. This interpretation begins to take shape as a possible cause and effect. If we were to see Russia and the US arrive at direct confrontation, it is presumed because of the principle of mutually assured destruction that there would be significant damage and casualties for both countries. Also, if this were the case, other current countries or governing bodies would step into the power vacuum created. Most likely, the UN would take a prominent role as it has in other global conflicts and likewise China would become more prominent as the only super power not directly involved in the conflict. I believe that these two likelihoods are further support of the interpretations on this page and I develop this idea more below with the third beast and the dragon.

Daniel 7 Biblical Beasts
The Leopard

The Bear of Daniel 7's Prophetic Beasts

The four-headed & four-winged leopard is one of the more challenging beasts to interpret. Having four heads suggests a beast that has a multi-faceted leadership - perhaps even an alliance of nations. While there are a couple countries that have a leopard as their national animal, they seem unlikely to rise to such a significant level of power.Instead, I think the most likely interpretation of the leopard-beast in Daniel 7 is likely the United Nations.

My first reason for this is the statue that is present outside the New York UN headquarters depicted in the image below. My second reason is based on the notion that the Leopard rises to power after the bear has been told to eat its fill of flesh. The leopard rising after the bear seems to indicate a sequence of authority or power and may imply that the bear is either stopped or conquered by the Leopard. This is reinforced when we look at the fourth beast which is partially described in Daniel 7 and can be logically matched to the Beast of the Sea in Revelation 13. I cover this connection more in Daniel 7 Beasts overview section above. In Revelation 13:2 we see that this beast is "like a leopard" and the implication here may be that the Leopard is ultimately the predominant figure prior to the transformation into the fourth beast.

In the context of the above interpretation of the first two beasts, the Leopard being the UN would make sense to take a more center-stage role in the event that open conflict were to arise with Russia and the US. The UN would continue working to act as a peace-keeping forum for the world and possibly coordinate peace-keeping initiatives in response to the conflict. The UN rising to power also makes sense in the context of the current socio-economic trending towards global governance, where the UN is already serving as a limited global governance system.

Daniel 7, Rev. 13 & 17 Biblical Beasts
The Fourth Beast

The Bear of Daniel 7's Prophetic Beasts

I believe that the fourth beast in Daniel 7 is a transformed amalgamation of the previous three beasts. Support for this is found specifically in Daniel 7:7,23 where both verses state the fourth beast will be "different" from all the others. The Hebrew word for "different" (Mesanneyah) in this case is from the root word "Shena" which better translates to changed or altered. So, we see in the text that the fourth beast will be changed or altered from the previous three beasts. I believe this indicates that Daniel saw the first three beast combine & transform into the fourth beast.

I believe that the fourth beast of Daniel 7 and the Beast of the Sea in Daniel 13 are the same beast. Support for this idea is first found when comparing the descriptions of the two. Daniel 7:3 and Revelation 13:2 that indicate that these 5 beasts are all coming from the sea. Both have ten horns. And, the beast mentioned in Revelation 13 that rises to power in the tribulation period is described as being like a LEOPARD with feet like a BEAR and his mouth like a LION. These are the first three beasts mentioned in Daniel 7 and therefore the 4th beast appears to be a combination of them. Back in Daniel 7:20-27 we see that the fourth beast is a kingdom that will speak against the Most High, wage war against the saints for a time, times, and half a time, and then ultimately lose its authority as all the kingdoms under heaven are given to the saints β€” the Millennial Reign. This places the fourth beast of Daniel 7 at the end of the church age, just as plainly as Revelation 13 places the Beast of the Sea in the same time-frame. So, we seem to have Biblical confirmation that the 4th beast of Daniel 7 is one-and-the-same as the sea beast of Revelation 13. Likewise, because the beast is associated with the Battle of Armageddon, we can have confidence that the beast is the same as the beast mentioned in Revelation 17-19 as well. The description of the beast in Revelation 17 with seven heads, ten horns, and blasphemous names matches the description in Revelation 13 helping to further establish this connection.

In Rev 17-19 the beast is ridden by a woman named "Babylon the Great, Mother of Harlots". I have identified Babylon the Great to be referring to Jerusalem. My methodology can be found on the Babylon the Great page of this site. The result of this is that we learn that like the previous kingdoms this beast will be a kingdom that rules over Israel and specifically Jerusalem and that behavior patterns like in the past are likely to return β€” namely idolatry and blasphemy against God. It's in the chapters associated with this identification that we learn the beast serves as a vessel of punishment against Jerusalem (and all the world according to Jeremiah 25:26). Likewise, in Daniel 7:20-22 we find that the beast

Another significant thing to note about this beast is that in Revelation 13:4 the beast is given its authority from the dragon and the result of this and the work of the next Beast of the Earth is that the fourth beast is worshipped by the world. In the speculative context of the interpretations above, we then need to ponder what or whom is represented by the dragon who gives authority to the beast? I cover this in a later section on this page, but first lets finish the beasts of Revelation 13.

Fulfillment Speculation

Moving forward with some current-event inspired speculation, and focusing once more on the heads of the beast, we see that there are seven and an eighth heads. We know from Revelation 17:9-10 that the heads are symbolic of both mountains (Jerusalem is surrounded by seven mountains) and also kings. The mountains helps identify the location and it leaves some room for speculation it could be that this seven mountain characteristic is something Jerusalem happens to share with the originating territory of the conquesting beast. This has the potential to be the Vatican for example with it's seven hills which would also tie nicely to how Daniel 2's statue of the Israel-conquesting kingdoms has rome represented with iron and then the feet correlating with the kingdom to come is described as iron mixed with clay. It could make good sense that Rome is somehow involved. Because the Vatican is a religious institution, it may be a better fit for the Beast of the Earth in Revelation 13 that causes the world to worship the Beast of the Sea.

The text also says that the seven heads are seven kings and again the kingdom in question is a combination of iron and clay. Because of this duality , perhaps there's more than one thing happening with these hills and kings. In that case we would be looking for a middle eastern (clay) kingdom that has had seven kings. Verses like Isaiah 10:5 and Micah 5:5 give us some potential indication of where to be looking for the clay that mixes with the iron. There, the only modern kingdom I've come across with seven kings is the Modern Kingdom of Saudi Arabia whose current king is the 7th and whose current prince would be an eighth. This has another interesting tie to prophetic scripture -- Daniel 9 states that it is a PRINCE who is to come that will confirm the covenant with many for seven years. Current events with Israel involve the current Saudi prince co-chairing UN arrangements regarding peace in Israel surrounding Gaza and the question of a Palestinian state. This could be how iron and clay have mixed with Saudi Arabia (and other Middle Eastern coutnries) operating within the larger UN organization perhaps viewed as a revived Roman Empire. Also, Saudi Arabia has drug their feet, but not denied the possibility of joining the Abrahamic Accords. So, it is interesting that we have a kingdom of 7 kings with a prince and a developing peace agreement. If that's not enough, within the same current world events has come the Gaza board of peace whose members have not yet been announced, but it will have 10 members, which MIGHT line up with the ten kings who have not yet received royal power in Revelation 17:12. At present, this board of peace is has only been said to apply to Gaza, but here it's possible the board could see it's authority expanded at a later time for some reason. This is all speculative of course, and we won't know until it's happening. But, a lot of the pieces seem to fit.

Rev. 13 Biblical Beasts
The Beast of the Earth

The Bear of Daniel 7's Prophetic Beasts

The second beast of Revelation 13 is depicted as rising out of the Earth with two horns like a lamb but speaking like a dragon. Later we learn that it's authority is in the presence of the beast and it causes the world to worship the Beast of the Sea. This description gives us quite a lot to work with. For starters, the beast is likened to a lamb because of its horns. This may indicate that the kingdom/organization that it represents has the appearance of being Christ-like, but what it speaks is instead like the dragon β€” who is identified to be Satan. This begins to suggest a major religious body that is a false Christianity which ultimately leads to worshipping the beast and Satan. This beast is also said to perform signs to convince onlookers that it is operating in divine authority, but it will actually be deception. Along these same lines, we find in Revelation 19:20 that this beast is referred to as a "false prophet". So, with that description comes some revelation that this body will present itself as a representative of God and providing false "revelations" of what God is doing or would have us do next.

A detail that is easily missed is that this beast has two horns. We've shown in previous sections that the two horns represent leadership. We saw an instance of two horns with the ram in Daniel 8 where the two horns represent two kings and the beast represents the culmination of the interactions between two empires β€” the Medes and the Persians. We know from history that the Persians were initially dominated by the Medes but then the Persians revolted and overthrew the Median King and thereby established the Persian empire. If this pattern holds true, the kingdom/governmental organization we'd be looking for in this case would be a religious body with characteristics in common with Christianity (lamb-like) that is either headed up by two leaders, and/or is the result of some rebellion within one religious body and that body merging with another to form the final form of the Beast of the Earth. As a result, the two beasts of Revelation 13 seem to be similarly natured in that they seem to be a merged, transformed body from a combination of individual groups that came before them.

It's also this beast that causes all people to take a mark on their hand or their forehead showing allegiance to the system it has created. This mark will also be required in order to participate in commerce. Current technology leaves little required of the imagination at this point for a system like this. But, the full concept described is unprecedented and will be a unique event for that reason. As a result, there's little more to be done with the identity of this beast at present other than pure speculation of how the remaining pieces fall into place.

Fulfillment Speculation

Because of this beast's association to the Beast of the Sea and that I think the Beast of the Sea will include at least the European portion of the United Nations, the Vatican in Rome is the only organization at present I'm aware of that would look to fit most of the characteristics listed above. Though it seems another leader would need to also be involved which implies a partnership with the pope or some kind of merging of the Vatican with another group.

It's unclear at this time, but worth pointing out that the papacy has in recent years communicated agendas related to joining the various religious communities of the world. So, this seems a likely avenue for fulfillment. Along these same lines, it's worth considering that in order to get a large population buy-in of a religious system that results in worshipping the Beast of the Sea, the religious groups would need to be convinced that this beast somehow fits into their existing belief systems or they would have to be convinced to abandon their beliefs. Abandonment seems unlikely, but if the various groups were to be convinced that the Messiah-figure they're waiting for has appeared and that figure happens to be a figure that is fulfilling prophecy for other religious bodies at the same time then you might find a sudden massive union of religious people willing to take on new belief structure in light of recent revelations. This is possibly why the signs the Beast of the Earth will perform are so significant. That may serve as the catalyst for what convinces so many people to adopt the same system with worship. This fits very well with the information I want to share related to the characteristics of The AntiChrist - the expected false-messiah figure - and how the expected characteristics of this individual have similarities with Messiah figures in many of the world's major religions. It seems the religious bodies are already set up for a single individual to come in a specific sort of way and fulfill the expectations of multiple religions at the same time. This looks like providence to me. It is my aim to add an AntiChrist focused page to this website soon documenting these ideas.

The Dragon

The Bear of Daniel 7's Prophetic Beasts

The Dragon's Origin

The Hebrew word for the dragon is Tannin

Rev. 12-19 Biblical Beast
The Seven-headed Red Dragon

Now established as a major figure throughout the Bible, Satan is depicted as the Seven-headed Red Dragon in Revelation 12-19. It's in Revelation 12:9 specifically that we are given the connection of the dragon to the same Satan as the serpent in the Garden of Eden. Because of the nature of Revelation 12, one might argue that the Dragon shouldn't be included in the list of prophetic beasts as it is shown to represent an individual. However, we are given a similar description of the dragon as the other beasts - seven heads, ten horns, and seven royal crowns on its head. Notice that the heads, horns, and crowns of the dragon are the same number as the Beast of the Sea. This even calls into question whether the beast the woman rides on in Revelation 17 is instead the dragon rather than the Beast of the Sea. And, it seems to me that there isn't a material difference by the time we get to Revelation 17. The Beast of the Sea has been given the authority of the dragon in Rev 13, it has been worshipped because of this authority, it has made war against the saints and conquered & killed them. But, they remain two separate entities and ultimately the dragon is bound while the beast is destroyed in the Lake of Fire.

Back to the description of the dragon, we see that the dragon has seven heads and ten horns.
